The Asian session is often called the “quiet session” - but that’s a myth.

Some days it simply builds a box of accumulation.

Other days it launches into a breakout that sets the tone for the next 24 hours.

The key to catching these moves lies in understanding context - specifically, where we are in the Accumulation–Manipulation–Distribution (AMD) cycle.

Why Anticipation Matters

Anticipation isn’t about predicting the future - it’s about reading the story so far.

When you know whether Asia is more likely to consolidate or break out, you can:

Avoid bleeding capital in chop.
Position early for trend days.
Stay aligned with Smart Money flow instead of chasing after it.

In short: anticipation protects you from noise and primes you for clarity.

The AMD Cycle and the Asian Session

Markets move in repeating cycles of Accumulation → Manipulation → Distribution (or Expansion).

Accumulation = quiet ranges, liquidity building.
Manipulation = false breaks, sweeps, stop hunts.
Distribution/Expansion = the real trend move.

So where Asia fits depends heavily on what the previous session already did.

1. If the U.S. session accumulated…

→ The Asian session often provides the manipulation leg (fake breakout), which London later expands.

Example: NY ranges tight, Asia sweeps one side, London runs the opposite way.

2. If the U.S. session distributed (trend leg delivered)…

→ The Asian session usually resets into fresh accumulation.

Example: NY trended cleanly, Asia drifts sideways, waiting for London’s liquidity injection.

3. If the U.S. session manipulated (false breakout)…

→ Asia may either continue into distribution or create another range.

Why the AMD Cycle Matters

If you don’t recognize the cycle, you’ll trade against the narrative.

You’ll chase Asian breakouts that were just manipulation wicks.
You’ll fade consolidation without realizing it’s fresh accumulation.
You’ll expect a London trend when the cycle already ended in NY.

By aligning with AMD, you’re not just guessing session types - you’re mapping where Smart Money is in the day’s rotation.

NY already distributed (big move delivered).
Price stuck between HTF zones.
Major news is waiting for London/NY.
Average Daily Range already stretched before Asia opens.

Playbook: Mark Asia’s range high/low. These levels often become liquidity targets for London sweeps.

Clues Asia Will Break Out (Manipulation/Distribution Mode)

NY session closed in tight accumulation.
Price is near key liquidity magnets (previous day’s high/low).
JPY headlines or BOJ comments hit the tape.
Strong carry-over momentum from NY into Tokyo.

Pairs to Trade During Asia

USD/JPY → The king of Tokyo. Sensitive to BOJ and bond flows.
AUD/USD & NZD/USD → High correlation with Asia-Pacific sentiment and commodities.
JPY Crosses (GBP/JPY, EUR/JPY) → Highly volatile, especially if London later joins the flow.

Cautions When Trading Asia

Don’t assume movement: Many sessions will still consolidate.
Beware of fakeouts: First 1–2 hours of Tokyo often sweep highs/lows before returning inside range.
Don’t force trades: If Asia is clearly ranging, your edge comes from mapping liquidity for London.
