November 05, 2021 - CME Group announced that Micro WTI Crude Oil futures volume surpassed 5 million contracts on Thursday, November 4, 2021. On the same day, Micro WTI Crude Oil futures reached a record 151,131 contracts traded, breaking its previous single day volume total of 100,725 contracts set on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.

"With demand returning to pre-pandemic levels and uncertainty around supply, Micro WTI Crude Oil futures are helping a broader range of clients access these markets in a more efficient way," said Peter Keavey, Global Head of Energy at CME Group. "We are pleased with the strong client interest we are seeing for these smaller-sized contracts across the globe, which is reflective of the vital role WTI serves in the market today. We look forward to continuing to provide the transparency and price discovery traders need to effectively manage their exposure to crude oil."

Micro WTI futures were launched on July 12 2021, and on July 14, the exchange announced that the contract was the most successful commodities product launch in the company's history.

Micro WTI futures are one-tenth the size of the benchmark WTI Crude Oil futures and are listed on and subject to the rules of NYMEX.
