Robinhood Launches Tokenised US Stocks and ETFs in EU, Reveals Blockchain Plans and Crypto Derivatives Expansion

Robinhood has announced a significant expansion of its crypto and digital asset offerings, unveiling stock tokens, a new Layer 2 blockchain, and a suite of additional products at its Robinhood Presents: To Catch a Token event in Cannes, France.

The company is now offering US stock and ETF tokens to eligible customers in the European Union, enabling exposure to over 200 US equities, including major technology firms, through its Robinhood Stock Tokens. These tokens feature zero commissions or added spreads from Robinhood, dividend support, and 24/5 trading access. With this move, Robinhood’s European app transitions from a crypto-only platform to an all-in-one investment app powered by crypto.

European users will also receive dividend payments directly in the app for holding stock tokens. The tokens are initially issued on Arbitrum, a Layer 2 blockchain built on Ethereum, with plans for future migration to Robinhood’s own Layer 2 blockchain, which is currently in development and will also be based on Arbitrum. The company states this blockchain will be optimised for tokenised real-world assets, supporting 24/7 trading, seamless bridging, and self-custody.
Vlad Tenev, Robinhood Chairman and CEO
“Our latest offerings lay the groundwork for crypto to become the backbone of the global financial system,” said Vlad Tenev, Robinhood Chairman and CEO.
Johann Kerbrat, GM and SVP of Robinhood Crypto
“Crypto was built by engineers for engineers, and has not been accessible to most people,” said Johann Kerbrat, GM and SVP of Robinhood Crypto. “We’re onboarding the world to crypto by making it as easy to use as possible—with the goal of bringing powerful tools into one intuitive platform.”
Robinhood also revealed plans to offer tokens linked to shares of private companies, including OpenAI and SpaceX, to European users. This marks the company’s first foray into tokenising private equity, facilitated by the EU’s more relaxed regulatory environment. Eligible EU users who sign up to trade stock tokens by 7 July will receive a gift of tokens valued at 5 euros from both OpenAI and SpaceX.
In addition to stock tokens, Robinhood is launching crypto perpetual futures in the EU. These derivatives will provide eligible customers with continuous exposure and leverage of up to 3x, with a full rollout expected by the end of summer 2025. The trading interface is designed to simplify the complexities typically associated with perpetual futures, offering intuitive controls for position sizing and margin management. Orders will be routed through Bitstamp’s perpetual futures exchange.
For US customers, Robinhood is introducing crypto staking, starting with Ethereum and Solana. This feature allows users to participate in blockchain ecosystems and earn competitive reward rates by contributing to network operations. Staking is also available to all Robinhood customers in the EU and EEA.
The company has also rolled out several new features aimed at enhancing the crypto trading experience:
Instant Boost on Crypto Deposits: For a limited period, US and EU investors can earn a 1% deposit boost on crypto transfers into Robinhood, with the possibility of doubling it to 2% if total deposits reach the $500 million goal.
Crypto Credit Card Rewards: The Robinhood Gold Credit Card, available to US customers, offers cashback on purchases, with the option to use rewards for automatic crypto purchases starting this autumn.
Cortex for Crypto: An AI-powered investing assistant, Cortex, will launch later this year for US customers, providing curated insights, trends, and real-time market analysis within each token’s detail page.
Smart Exchange Routing: This feature evaluates multiple partner exchanges to secure the best available price for orders, with plans to introduce fee tiers based on trading volume and API support.
Tax Lots: US customers can now view and sell specific tax lots for crypto trades, enabling more strategic tax management.
Advanced Charts: Advanced charting tools from Robinhood Legend will debut on mobile, initially for equities and expanding to crypto in August.
