Blockchain.com has secured a definitive Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) custody services licence from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), granted through its Cayman Islands subsidiary.
The licence permits the firm to provide virtual asset custody services, along with two additional approved activities: exchange between virtual assets and fiat currencies, and exchange between one or more other forms of convertible virtual assets.
CIMA granted conditional approval of Blockchain.com's application in December 2025. As of 22 July 2026, the company had met all conditions attached to that approval and is now licensed to operate on a definitive basis. Blockchain.com had previously held a VASP registration in the jurisdiction since May 2022.
The Cayman licence follows two other regulatory approvals secured by Blockchain.com over the past year, including a MiCA licence in Europe and an FCA registration in the UK.
Lane Kasselman, Co-CEO, Blockchain.com
Lane Kasselman, Co-CEO, Blockchain.com said:
"Our VASP custody services licence builds on the regulatory momentum we've established with our recent MiCA and FCA approvals. We believe strong regulation is essential to the long-term development of digital assets, and these approvals further strengthen our ability to serve customers across the region."
Alongside the licensing update, Blockchain.com confirmed a partnership with TechCayman, a facilitator that supports global technology companies establishing a physical presence in the Cayman Islands. Through the arrangement, TechCayman is providing sponsorship, operational support and local network access as Blockchain.com prepares to make its first on-island hire.
The custody licence supports a wider suite of regulated services the company offers, including institutional custody, institutional staking and retail staking.
Blockchain.com states it has facilitated over $1.1 trillion in transactions and served more than 43 million verified users since 2011.
