Clearstream, the post-trade business of Deutsche Börse Group, has announced the development of a next-generation digital securities infrastructure designed to serve both traditional and tokenised securities markets.
The platform is intended to function as a digital-first, fully hybrid system, enabling market participants to hold and combine traditional securities, digital securities and cash in a single portfolio. Clients will gain institutional-grade access to blockchain technology and crypto assets, including stablecoins and other securities tokens.
The infrastructure will launch in stages, with principal components scheduled to go live across 2026 and 2027. Subject to regulatory approval, it will cover the full securities lifecycle, encompassing issuance, distribution, settlement, custody, asset servicing, liquidity and financing. The platform will serve clients across traditional and digital financial markets, irrespective of technology, asset type or money type, for all assets regulated under the EU's MiFID and MiCA legislative frameworks.
Clearstream is building the platform in collaboration with market partners and clients, targeting practical use cases including large-scale tokenisation of securities, on-chain settlement, and the reuse of assets as collateral across multiple transactions.
Stephanie Eckermann, Member of the Executive Board, Deutsche Börse Group
Stephanie Eckermann, Member of the Executive Board, Deutsche Börse Group, and Chairwoman, Clearstream commented:
"Clearstream is unveiling the next generation of financial market infrastructure and Europe's first digital securities infrastructure serving clients globally. We are proud to lead this transformation, connecting investors and issuers to bring investment flows where they are needed. With this step, we are re-shaping the post-trading landscape and creating the perfect infrastructure for both traditional and tokenised assets to equip the market for a future of digital finance."
The initiative builds on Clearstream's existing digital track record, which includes its D7 platform, MiCA-compliant crypto custody, digital financing services and automated investor communication tools, alongside its broader institutional financial market infrastructure operations.
Clearstream issues more than 5 million securities a year, holds EUR 22 trillion in assets under custody and connects 60 markets worldwide. The company says its digital securities infrastructure will support the EU's Savings & Investments Union, with the aim of simplifying and strengthening investment flows across Europe and internationally.
