Revolut has secured regulatory permission covering crypto trading, custody and staking for its Gibraltar subsidiary, adding to its expanding international digital assets business.
The Government of Gibraltar announced today that Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited had received permission under Part 7 of the Financial Services Act to undertake regulated distributed ledger technology activities.
These include the transmission and execution of virtual-asset orders, custody and staking. The statement did not specify when each service would become available or which overseas markets the subsidiary would serve.
The government also confirmed that Revolut had fully resumed onboarding Gibraltar residents to its electronic-money and payments app, following engagement with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission and government officials.
Revolut introduced cryptocurrency trading in its app in 2017 and launched its standalone exchange, Revolut X, in 2024. The development gave the group a separate platform for more active crypto traders alongside the simpler service within its main financial app.
Revolut X now offers market and limit orders, TradingView charts and API access for automated trading. Its advertised pricing includes zero maker fees and a 0.09% taker fee, positioning it to compete for trading activity beyond occasional purchases by existing Revolut customers. Product availability varies by jurisdiction.
The scale of the business is already substantial. In July 2026, Revolut said it served more than 16 million crypto customers globally. That figure describes its crypto customer base, rather than a disclosed number of monthly active traders.
The Gibraltar permission follows regulatory developments in Europe and the Middle East.
Revolut’s European crypto entity, Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd, holds a cryptoasset service provider licence from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. Revolut has been migrating EEA crypto customers to that entity as part of its MiCA arrangements.
In July, the group announced in-principle approval from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority for broker-dealer, management and investment, and exchange services. Revolut said it intended to deliver those services through both its main app and Revolut X, subject to final regulatory approvals.
Revolut is extending its crypto offering through separately regulated entities. Gibraltar adds another permission to that structure.
Revolut’s ambitions also extend to connecting digital assets with everyday money movement.
In August, it announced phased testing of EURR, a euro-denominated stablecoin issued by Stripe-owned Bridge Building, for eligible customers in Denmark, Poland and Portugal. Revolut said the Ethereum-based token would support movement between fiat money, cryptoassets and external wallets, with stablecoins linked to other currencies also in development.
