Thunes and Coinbase have announced a strategic collaboration at Money20/20 USA, combining a fiat payout network with a digital asset platform to support cross-border payments.
Under the agreement, Coinbase will integrate Thunes’ Direct Global Network into its platform, giving it direct payout access to local clearing systems and alternative payment methods. Thunes will provide real-time, “last-mile” delivery to billions of mobile wallets and bank accounts worldwide. This will allow Coinbase customers to send funds across more countries and currencies, including hard-to-reach regions with limited banking infrastructure.
Coinbase will also power Thunes’ stablecoin infrastructure through its suite of stablecoin solutions, which will allow Thunes to integrate stablecoins more deeply across its network. The companies said the collaboration targets use cases including enterprise supplier payments, global gig worker payouts and instant international remittances.
Stablecoins are already part of Thunes’ liquidity management. In August, the company launched EURC prefunding across its network, building on a collaboration with Circle in October 2024 that introduced USDC-powered liquidity.
Thunes is headquartered in Singapore and has offices in 14 locations. Its Direct Global Network allows Members to make payments in real time in over 140 countries and more than 90 currencies. The network connects directly to over 12 billion mobile wallets, stablecoin wallets and bank accounts worldwide, as well as 15 billion cards, via more than 220 payment methods including GCash, M-Pesa, Airtel, MTN, Orange, JazzCash, Easypaisa, AliPay and WeChat Pay HK. Members include Uber, Deliveroo, Grab and WeChat, alongside money transfer operators, fintechs, payment service providers and banks.
Coinbase is a platform for trading, staking, safekeeping, spending and transferring crypto assets, and it provides infrastructure for onchain activity.
