Derivatives marketplace operator CME Group has announced that it will extend 24/7 trading to its 100-Ounce Silver futures contract from 11 September 2026, subject to regulatory review.
The move follows the launch of round-the-clock trading in the exchange's 1-Ounce Gold futures contract on 24 July. Both contracts are sized for retail participation, carrying smaller notional exposure than the benchmark contracts they reference.
Weekend gold volumes pass $200 million
Since 24/7 trading in 1-Ounce Gold futures went live, more than 53,000 contracts have changed hands during the newly added weekend sessions, representing roughly $219 million in notional value. CME Group says this is now the largest liquidity pool for weekend trading in gold futures.

Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals, CME Group said:
"Silver bridges the precious and industrial metals worlds, acting as a diversifier for investors that responds to both macroeconomic news and real-world demand. Our retail clients have shown a strong appetite for right-sized gold futures available whenever they need them, so we are now extending that same 24/7 access to help participants manage risk and pursue opportunities in silver."
Record metals activity in the first half
CME Group's silver futures complex traded a record $50 billion average daily notional in the first half of 2026. The 100-Ounce Silver contract, which launched in February 2026, averaged 17,800 contracts a day over the same period.
Across the wider metals business, the exchange recorded 1.3 million contracts traded daily in the first half, up 55% year on year, with the increase driven by precious metals activity.
Contract mechanics
100-Ounce Silver futures are financially settled against the daily settlement price of the COMEX 5,000-Ounce Silver futures contract, the global benchmark. The contract is listed by, and subject to the rules of, COMEX.
