September 22, 2023 - CoinShares International Limited, a leading European alternative asset manager specializing in digital assets, has launched a hedge fund division called CoinShares Hedge Fund Solutions. This marks the company's expansion beyond its European base by making investment products accessible to qualified U.S. investors for the first time.
CoinShares aims to become a premier destination for digital asset investments for institutions. The company will offer a diverse range of beta, alpha, and hybrid strategies to meet the unique needs of each institution. The goal is to help clients create well-rounded and optimized crypto investment portfolios. CoinShares seeks to provide institutions with the tools and insights needed to navigate digital asset investments.
CoinShares Capital LLC, a FINRA-registered broker-dealer and wholly-owned subsidiary of CoinShares, will conduct marketing activities to qualified investors in the U.S. to promote the hedge fund division's offerings.
The new division marks a return to CoinShares' roots as an investment firm. CoinShares was originally founded as the commodity hedge fund Global Advisors. In 2014, it launched the regulated Global Advisors Bitcoin Investment Fund which operated until 2017.
The hedge fund division leverages CoinShares' proprietary crypto trading experience since 2016. With this background, CoinShares is positioned to offer institutional-grade investment products on par with established financial institutions.
Lewis Fellas has been appointed Head of CoinShares Hedge Fund Solutions. He has 23 years of industry experience, including 7 years in digital assets. The division will utilize CoinShares' experienced trading and quantitative teams.
In a statement, CoinShares CEO Jean-Marie Mognetti said, "In today's environment of rising interest rates and inflation, demand for actively managed digital asset exposure is growing. With over a decade of experience in digital assets and decades in hedge funds, this new division represents the next step in CoinShares' evolution. Our products aim to deliver a premium investor experience, complementing our long-only asset management offerings."
Lewis Fellas, Head of CoinShares Hedge Fund Solutions, added, "I was inspired to enter crypto asset management by CoinShares in 2016, so leading this new division is an honor. Our strategies leverage the team's deep knowledge, showcasing our ability to develop novel products that meet institutional investor demands. This is a great opportunity we plan to capture with our unique fund offerings. Each product is designed to mitigate risk while providing defined exposures."
