KuCoin appoints former chief legal officer BC Wong as new chief executive

Cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has appointed BC Wong as its new chief executive officer, promoting the former chief legal officer who has led the platform's regulatory compliance efforts across multiple jurisdictions.
The Victoria, Seychelles-based exchange announced Wong's appointment on 21 January 2025, highlighting his role in securing regulatory licences and strengthening relationships with authorities across the EU, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Wong, a Singaporean with a Juris Doctor degree from Singapore Management University and a master's degree from George Washington University, had previously served as KuCoin's chief legal officer before his promotion to the top role.
BC Wong, KuCoin's new CEO commented, "Our priority is to build a reliable platform for our users. As CEO, I am focused on enhancing our global presence and fostering collaboration with regulators to create a secure, inclusive financial ecosystem. Together with our partners and users, we will shape the future of finance."
The appointment comes as cryptocurrency exchanges face increased regulatory scrutiny worldwide, with platforms seeking to demonstrate compliance with evolving digital asset regulations. KuCoin, which claims over 41 million users globally, has positioned regulatory engagement as a strategic priority under Wong's leadership.
During his tenure as chief legal officer, Wong spearheaded efforts to navigate industry challenges whilst advancing KuCoin's global regulatory engagement. The exchange has emphasised its commitment to user-centricity, security, and technological innovation under his guidance.
KuCoin was founded in 2017 and offers digital asset solutions including wallets, trading, wealth management, payments, research, ventures, and AI-powered trading bots. The platform has received recognition including "Best Crypto Apps & Exchanges" by Forbes and was named among the "Top 50 Global Unicorns" by Hurun in 2024.
Under Wong's leadership, KuCoin has also expanded its corporate social responsibility initiatives, partnering with organisations including the Global CSR Foundation and the American Medical Women's Association. The exchange has participated in programmes including the UN COP28 Climate Change Conference, Green Blockchain Projects, the Light Up Africa Program, and the Climate Change Bucket initiative, which the company says have benefited over 50,000 women and children globally.
The leadership change reflects KuCoin's strategic focus on expanding its presence in key markets whilst maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements across its operational jurisdictions.
