Wintermute, a digital asset liquidity provider, has reported significant growth in its over-the-counter (OTC) trading services, reflecting the increasing demand for reliable liquidity in the cryptocurrency market.
The company has seen a threefold year-over-year increase in its number of counterparties, reaching over 1,000 as of Q2 2023. This growth comes in the wake of complex market events in late 2022 and banking disruptions in early 2023, which underscored the importance of consistent liquidity access.
Since May 2022, Wintermute has executed more than 8.4 million OTC trades, with the largest single trade exceeding $1 billion. The firm has also expanded its coverage of digital assets, resulting in a 30% increase in the total number of trading pairs offered, now surpassing 600 at peak market activity.
Wintermute's OTC products include spot trading and derivatives such as perpetuals, futures, CFDs, and NDFs. The company states that counterparties "benefit from the same pricing used by the algorithms leveraged in our proprietary trading business."
For institutional traders, Wintermute offers API access, which the company claims provides "99.99% uptime, no hold times, and very low reject rates." The firm has recently increased the decimal place precision for assets to enhance trading capabilities.
Wintermute NODE, the company's click-to-trade web interface, caters to a broader range of clients, including crypto natives, family offices, hedge funds, and qualified high-net-worth individuals. The platform offers features such as custom order book levels, various order types, and access to historical market data through TradingView chart functionalities.
As the digital asset market continues to evolve, Wintermute's expansion of its OTC trading services appears to be meeting a growing demand for liquidity and diverse trading options in the cryptocurrency space.
