BitGo Receives BaFin Approval To Launch Regulated Crypto Trading In Europe
Digital asset infrastructure provider BitGo has received approval from Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to extend the licence of its subsidiary, BitGo Europe GmbH, to include regulated crypto trading services. The expansion will be operated out of Frankfurt.
The approval builds on the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) licence that BitGo Europe first secured from BaFin in May 2025. With the extension, European institutional investors can now access BitGo’s over-the-counter trading desk and electronic trading platform for spot trading across thousands of digital assets and stablecoins.
BitGo said investors would benefit from aggregated access to dozens of liquidity sources, including exchanges and market makers, enabling execution at competitive prices. The company added that the service combines trading with its institutional-grade custody, staking and transfer solutions.
Brett Reeves, Head of European Sales and Go Network at BitGo, said the launch strengthens the firm’s European platform and supports institutional adoption.
"We are thrilled to bolster our European platform and enable our clients to trade seamlessly, competitively, and confidently. By combining our institutional-grade custody solution with seamless, high-performance execution, clients will now be able to access deep liquidity with the peace of mind that their assets will remain in cold storage under MiCA-compliant, regulated custody. This is a game-changer for any institution looking to operate safely and efficiently in the digital assets markets and a strong step forward for Europe's maturing digital asset ecosystem."

According to BitGo, its European trading services have been developed to meet the requirements of institutions, offering a full suite that integrates custody, trading, staking and settlement under one regulated framework. The company said this approach allows institutions to deploy capital more efficiently while maintaining asset security.
Founded in 2013, BitGo provides custody, wallet, staking, trading, financing and settlement services from regulated cold storage. The company serves thousands of institutions worldwide, including exchanges, platforms and asset managers.
