Digital assets and FX brokerage GC Exchange FZE (GCEX) @GCEX has appointed Mohammed A. Mulla as a Board Member of its Dubai-based entity, part of the wider GCEX Group. @GCEX is a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) regulated by the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) in the United Arab Emirates, authorised as a broker dealer.
Mulla joins with more than 16 years of capital markets experience across the MENA region and Asia. He was the founding Vice President for MENA and Asia at liquidity and trading technology provider @Finalto (formerly CFH), where over the course of his career he contributed circa 2 trillion USD in STP trading volumes. In 2019 he conceived and launched Noor Clearing, a strategic partnership between Finalto and Noor Capital PSC, which was at the time transitioning from its landmark regulation with the UAE Central Bank to the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA).
Mulla began his capital markets career in 2007 as a Sales Associate (EMEA) at ODL Securities in the UK, following an earlier role as an auditor at Ernst & Young in Saudi Arabia. He holds an MSc in International Finance from Westminster Business School, London, and certificates in Securities and Regulations from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).
The appointment reunites Mulla with GCEX Founder and CEO Lars Holst (@larshe0615) , who commented on the near-decade the pair have known each other.
"Having worked with Mohammed since the inception of CFH for almost a decade and having followed his career ever since, he brings significant regional acumen, an impressive track record and an exceptionally strong network. I am thrilled to have him join our team to help us capitalise on the growth opportunities regionally and globally."- Lars Holst, Founder and CEO, GCEX
Mulla said the move aligned with principles he holds strongly.
"This is an exciting career move for me. Lars is a visionary and has built GCEX's crypto offering around principles that I strongly believe in: STP access to Tier 1 liquidity, no conflict of interest with clients, and a commitment to building long-term mutually beneficial client relationships. He has also attracted an impressive and highly experienced team to build on this vision, including some of my former colleagues from CFH, whom I am looking forward to working with again." - Mohammed A. Mulla, Board Member, GCEX
Mulla pointed to the firm's regulatory foundations and technology focus as key to its regional standing.
"The opportunities for growth at GCEX are vast. GCEX is at the forefront of the industry with its strong regulatory foundations, deep capital markets expertise, and focus on blockchain technology at a time when digital assets and tokenised real-world assets are becoming increasingly important in global financial markets. The firm has already established itself as a pioneer in the region, including becoming one of the first firms to receive a VASP Operating Licence from VARA to provide Virtual Asset Broker-Dealer services, and the first to gain approval to operate with a client money account. GCEX is an exciting company to be a part of, and I am looking forward to playing a major role in the firm's next phase of growth." - Mohammed A. Mulla, Board Member, GCEX
