Nasdaq Ventures, the corporate venture arm of exchange operator Nasdaq, has made a strategic investment in Amsterdam-based derivatives and crypto exchange One Trading. The size of the investment was not disclosed.
The two companies said they will explore combining Nasdaq's market infrastructure expertise and global reach with One Trading's derivatives technology, with the stated aim of enabling 24/7 trading of equity futures.
What One Trading Offers
One Trading operates a regulated European venue offering round-the-clock spot crypto trading and perpetual futures on equities to retail and institutional clients. Its platform brings trading, risk management and settlement together in a single system and supports cross-collateral netting and automated liquidations.
According to the announcement, the companies will also evaluate an expanded product range, including long-dated futures, and look at how 24/7 operating infrastructure could be applied to traditional derivatives.
Management Comment
"Nasdaq Ventures' investment is a strong signal that this model belongs at the core of market infrastructure, not at its edges. For us, it means support to keep building, and the chance to work alongside one of the world's most experienced market operators to learn from clients and understand where our technology can create the most value."

Joshua Barraclough, Chief Executive Officer, One Trading
Joshua Barraclough, Chief Executive Officer, One Trading said:
"Looking ahead, our focus is on broadening what's available on a regulated European venue and exploring with Nasdaq how other markets and their clients could benefit from the innovations we've made in market structure."
Exchange Groups Move Towards Always-On Markets
The investment follows Nasdaq's announcement last month of a US$100 million investment in Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken. CME Group has also recently introduced 24/7 trading in selected futures contracts.
For brokers offering CFDs on indices and single stocks, regulated round-the-clock futures markets could provide new hedging venues outside traditional exchange hours.
