President Donald Trump has appointed Mark T. Uyeda as Acting Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the agency announced today.

Uyeda, who has served as an SEC Commissioner since June 2022, brings extensive regulatory experience to the role, having worked at the agency since 2006 in various capacities.

"I am honored to serve in this capacity after serving as a Commissioner since 2022, and a member of the staff since 2006," Acting Chairman Uyeda said. "I have great respect for the knowledge, expertise, and experience of the agency and its people. The SEC has a vital mission—protecting investors, maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitating capital formation—that plays a key role in promoting innovation, jobs creation, and the American Dream."

The Senate recently confirmed Uyeda for a five-year term that will expire in 2028. His previous roles include senior positions at both the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of Labor during Trump's first administration. He also worked with the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

At the SEC, Uyeda's positions have included Senior Advisor to former Chairman Jay Clayton, Counsel to Commissioners Michael S. Piwowar and Paul S. Atkins, and Assistant Director and Senior Special Counsel in the Division of Investment Management.

Prior to joining the SEC, Uyeda served as Chief Advisor to the California Corporations Commissioner under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. His private sector experience includes positions as a corporate and securities attorney at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Washington, D.C., and O'Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles.

A Georgetown University graduate with a business administration degree and Duke University Law School honours graduate, Uyeda previously served as president of the Asian Pacific Bar Association of the Greater Washington, D.C. Area. In 2023, he received the Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
