Interactive Brokers Group (NASDAQ: IBKR) will be added to the S&P 500 Index this week, replacing Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ: WBA).

Shares of Interactive Brokers rose 4.5% in late trading on Monday to USD 65.54 after the market closed and the announcement was circulated.

The Connecticut-based investment holding company is currently a constituent of the S&P MidCap 400. It will move to the S&P 500 before trading opens on Thursday.

Interactive Brokers is one of the largest electronic trading platforms in the world, handling more than 2 million trades per day across equities, options, futures, currencies and bonds. The firm was founded in 1977 by Thomas Peterffy, often called the “father of digital trading,” who pioneered computerised market-making.

Walgreens Boots Alliance is being acquired by private equity firm Sycamore Partners in a transaction expected to close soon, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices.
