AvaTrade Agrees To Acquire Majority Of FXCM Business As Broker Consolidation Continues

Multi-asset trading broker AvaTrade has agreed to acquire the majority of FXCM Group’s business and brand, in a transaction that would bring a longstanding retail FX franchise into the AvaTrade Group.

Announced on 9 October, the agreement follows a separate deal for spread betting and CFD broker Trade Nation to acquire FXCM’s UK client book. Together, the announcements establish different buyers for the UK client business and the broader operations covered by AvaTrade’s agreement.

AvaTrade said the transaction would give relevant FXCM clients access to its platforms, AI-powered tools and multi-asset offering. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price or completion date.

      AvaTrade Targets Broader International Reach

Daire Ferguson, Chief Executive Officer of AvaTrade, said: “Our ambition is to help shape the next phase of global online trading. This transaction represents a significant further step toward realizing that ambition. By combining FXCM’s established market presence with AvaTrade’s technology and product innovation, we aim to expand our global reach and build a stronger, more diversified trading group.

“The online trading industry is entering a new phase in which leading companies must combine trust, innovation and global access, with a broad range of trading solutions,” added Ferguson. “This agreement supports our strategy to expand internationally, broaden our multi-asset offering and continue to invest in technology, including AI, to support traders at every experience level. We look forward to welcoming FXCM clients to a new era of trading with AvaTrade.”

AvaTrade linked the acquisition agreement to its recent technology investment, including the launch of an AI-powered trading platform.

UK Client Transfer Follows A Separate Agreement

Trade Nation announced its agreement with Stratos Markets Limited, the operator of FXCM and Tradu in the UK, on 6 October. That transaction covers the UK client book, with migration expected in November.

The distinction matters for clients and counterparties: AvaTrade’s announcement refers to the majority of FXCM Group’s business, rather than an acquisition of every operation under the FXCM name.

Finance Magnates reported that Jefferies had been exploring a sale of FXCM’s parent, Stratos Group International, and had previously reported AvaTrade’s interest in acquiring the business.

      Detailed Transaction Scope Remains Undisclosed

AvaTrade’s release does not identify the full list of legal entities and assets included, or set out the treatment of FXCM Pro’s institutional business.

The announcement also provides no detailed migration timetable for affected clients. The agreement establishes AvaTrade’s intended expansion, while the operational arrangements for the businesses being acquired remain to be announced.

      FXCM Brand’s Future Remains Unconfirmed

The agreement includes the FXCM brand, but AvaTrade has not announced whether it will continue operating under that name or whether affected clients will ultimately move to AvaTrade branding.

The announcement also leaves the treatment of FXCM Pro’s institutional business unspecified, with no full breakdown of the entities and operations included in the transaction.

The separate UK client transfer to Trade Nation does not necessarily mean that the FXCM name will disappear globally.
