Cross-border payments company Thunes has launched real-time payment services into Morocco, enabling members of its Direct Global Network to offer instant transfers to bank accounts in the country. The service supports payouts in Moroccan Dirham (MAD) and provides access to Morocco's increasingly digitised economy.
Morocco ranks among the top receiving countries in Africa for remittances, with the World Bank reporting that the country received over USD 11.5 billion in 2023. This volume underscores the importance of efficient and affordable cross-border payment solutions into the North African market.
The launch addresses growing demand for faster international transfers, supported by research from Thunes' 2025 Report: Money Without Borders. The study found that 65% of expatriates prioritise speed above all other factors when selecting a payment method for cross-border transfers.
