You have marked your weekly gold levels. Now, where should you focus when price returns to those areas?
The next step is to refine your XAUUSD support and resistance on the daily chart. Examine daily swing points, candle bodies, and wicks to identify a clearer reaction area within your broader weekly zone.
In our previous guide, how to mark gold levels on the weekly chart, we focused on drawing the major zones. This continuation explains how to add daily detail to your XAUUSD price action strategy.
Can the daily chart reveal a clearer area to monitor while keeping the weekly structure in view?
Switch from the 1W timeframe to the 1D timeframe, where each candle represents one trading day.
Keep your weekly rectangles on the chart. Use a different color or label for any daily zones you add.

The weekly chart provides the broader reference. The daily chart shows how price has moved within and around that area.
Focus first on the weekly zones closest to price. There is no need to mark every historical daily reaction.
Ask: Where, inside this weekly area, did gold repeatedly turn or pause before moving away?
If your major levels are not yet marked, start with our XAUUSD support and resistance guide before refining the daily chart.
Before adjusting any zone, check whether the daily chart is forming:
The weekly and daily trends may differ. Gold can remain bullish on the weekly chart while developing a daily downtrend during a pullback.
A touch of weekly support does not, by itself, confirm that the daily decline has ended.
During a daily downtrend approaching weekly support, watch the lower highs. During a daily uptrend approaching weekly resistance, watch the higher lows. A break of a relevant swing can help you reassess the existing daily trend.
Need help identifying these swings? Review how to read market structure, then apply those principles to your daily gold chart.

Look for a cluster of completed daily candles showing reactions within the weekly area.
A practical drawing process is:
Avoid selecting only the candles that make your zone look precise. Check whether its boundaries reasonably represent the surrounding price action.
A smaller rectangle is useful only when the chart supports it. If reactions are spread across the weekly zone, leave the area broad.
For more guidance on drawing boundaries, review how to identify support and resistance levels and apply the process to your selected daily reaction cluster.
Price may break a refined daily level while remaining inside the original weekly zone.
For example, a daily close above a smaller resistance area does not necessarily mean gold has cleared the entire weekly resistance.

Check:
This distinction helps keep your XAUUSD price action analysis consistent across timeframes.
A broken daily zone may need to be reassessed while the broader weekly area remains relevant. Price can also briefly move beyond a boundary before closing back inside it.
Before treating a move beyond your zone as a breakout, study how to recognise false breakouts and compare the candle close with the zone boundaries.
Once price returns to your refined level, observe the reaction.
At support, monitor:

At resistance, monitor:
These observations provide different kinds of evidence. A rejection candle shows a local reaction; a meaningful swing break provides more information about structure.
To assess the candle itself, review candlestick confirmation with price action. If a rejection forms a pin bar, our bullish and bearish pin bar guide explains that pattern in more detail.
Wait for the daily candle to close before treating its final shape as confirmed. Confirmation still does not guarantee that the zone will hold.
Imagine you have marked a broad weekly support zone.
On the daily chart, several completed candles show lower-wick rejections and clustered body edges in its upper section. You mark that smaller area as Daily Support Within Weekly Support.
When gold returns, consider three possibilities:
| Daily price behavior | What to assess next |
| Price rejects the refined support. | Watch whether buyers can break the relevant daily lower high. |
| Price closes below daily support but stays inside weekly support. | Reassess the smaller zone; the broader weekly area remains in play. |
| Price moves below the entire weekly zone. | Monitor subsequent closes and any retest from below; a weekly close provides additional context. |
This is a hypothetical chart-reading example, not a current gold trade signal.
To practise interpreting these reactions, explore price action at key levels and compare the framework with examples on your own chart.
A refined daily zone gives your gold swing trade plan a clearer area to monitor. Before considering an entry, define:
Do not assume that a narrower drawing automatically justifies a tighter stop. The setup’s structure, price fluctuations, and trading costs still matter.
Use our position-sizing guide to connect your planned risk with trade size. For exits, review how to set take-profit targets using market structure and support and resistance.
Then bring these steps together with our step-by-step gold swing-trading guide.
Before moving to a lower timeframe, confirm:
Refining XAUUSD support and resistance on the daily chart starts with the weekly zones you have already marked.
Examine daily structure, identify meaningful reaction clusters, and draw a smaller area only where the evidence supports it.
Mark the area. Watch the reaction. Let completed price action guide your next assessment.
