Has anyone read The Trading Game by Gary Stevenson, ex-CITI FX trader. A memoir of his life from the East of London to being “the best trader in the world”.

      https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trading-Game-Confession-Gary-Stevenson/dp/0241636604

Just seen this article in the FT: https://www.ft.com/content/7e8b47b3-7931-4354-9e8a-47d75d057fff

The book sounds interesting but just wondering if anyone has read it and can recommend (or not)?

Can highly recommend Why Aren't They Shouting by ex-Deutsche Bank Kevin Rodgers. A first-person account of a career in a Tier-1 bank that was at the cutting edge of the evolution from voice-based (shouting) FX trading to silent clicks trading on screens.

If anyone has been on a large trading floor where it is almost like being in a library, yet billions of dollars are changing hands, this one is for you.  The LIFFE floor went from face-to-face yelling to people sat at desks clicking screens and adjusting charts. An interesting journey through this evolution and what it might mean for stability of markets. Recommended reading!

Reading The Trading Game currently. The book itself is good, not so well-written at times, but a good coming-of-age story.

I think the timing and guy behind the book is more interesting though. Gary seems to be on a mission to stop financial inequality and bring down big banks and funds. His YouTube channel is quite popular now, currently at 435k subs.

I think the book itself is a bit of an exposé, which has made him quite unpopular with some ex-colleagues. Will be interesting to see the responses.

I've disgracefully posted my own novel, TOXIC OPTIONS on here. It's set in the 1980s and is the story of a star options trader with a gambling addiction, 2 hard East End bookmakers, Insider dealing, the head of regulation at the London Stock Exchange and the IRA.

Published in July by LR Price, Bloomsbury and available in Waterstones or from Amazon. £12.99. 11/11 5 star reviews so far on Amazon. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Jimmy. No shame in doing that. Great to have an author here!

Sounds  very interesting! How much of it is based on real events? Definitely one for me to add to my reading list.

      Many thanks Sam.

I'd say that the culture of the novel is very much based on real events. The Stock Exchange floor, the gambling and the insider dealing in particular. The scenes at Walthamstow, White City and Cheltenham too. As for the people, not really, although I'd be lying if I said that I hadn't pictured some of the rogues I knew back then as characters in the book. So, yes the background was very real, although the actual plot is entirely fiction, thinly based on news stories of the day.

Hi Jimmy - Happy New Year! Finally got around to reading your book, finished it last night. I couldn't put it down from halfway through, finished in pretty much one sitting.

I thought the description of the gambling addiction was particularly good, culminating in the GA meeting. Thought it was a very good portrayal of someone with a gambling addiction.

Are there any more books in development?

      Hi Sam,

Thank you very much for the nice remarks-I'm so pleased you liked it.

Sadly, the publisher LR Price have got themselves into a load of trouble and have ceased trading. I've managed to secure  the rights to the novel back, but need to find a new publisher or literary agent before writing any more.

      I'll let you know if/when I do.

      Kind regards,

      Jimmy
